A lot has gone since I last posted here. Love has been great (almost four years now with my wonderful girl). Life has been progressing (mostly) in the direction I've charted. But, most importantly, as I've gotten older, WORK has become a bigger part of my life; you've got to work to make that money.
As a graphic designer, I felt that I almost had no choice but to seek in-house work with companies or design studios. For years, I did this. However, continuously, I found that the confined structures of desk work at the bottom step of a corporate ladder to not be conducive to my creative process; and Lord knows I tried to stick it out as long as I could. But, it just wasn't a good fit for me. So, I abandoned that and tried my hand at freelance design work. Every once and a while, this worked out great; however, the work was never constant. Also, as simply a
freelance graphic designer, I wasn't commanding much authority in my field. So, I sought to change that,
and I did.
I started my own graphic design studio/company:
Let me give you a bit of backstory as to why I chose this name:
Growing up, I was continuously asked the same joke: "Oh, you're last name is Barber; can you give me a hair cut GNUK GNUK GNUK?" Children can be SO very original... A particular quote from Game of Thrones has always stuck with me; it was spoken by Tyrion Lannister: "Never forget what you are. The rest of the world will not. Wear it like armor, and it can never be used to hurt you." I took this to heart. I decided that, instead of having this last name of mine be a weapon used against me, I would wear it as my armor. And so I have.
As you can tell from my lack of frequency of entries as of late, I have shifted my focus very heavily to my work as a graphic designer. However, I have no desire to close my DeviantArt page. This is my outlet to express myself a bit more freely, for person pleasure as opposed to personal gain.
That being said, this being a website dedicated to art making, I feel as though I should share the link to my company' portfolio site. On my new portfolio site, I try to focus on a more mature, professional facade, and, as such, a more mature, professional work.
Please, click the link. Enjoy my work.
I sincerely hope that you have a wonderful day, each and everyone one of you!
